Top 5 "Oldies but Goodies" Movies

People like to tag movies from the 30's-60's as "classics" or "outdated" or maybe a tinge misogynistic- but hey if you're grandma can say all those things why can't Bogie? Well I've been labeled an old soul because 90% of the movies I watch include men chain smoking who are a good 40 years older than their leading ladies, but the clothes were exquisite and the booze endless, so kick back in your fedora and watch my Top 5 Classic Movies.

5. Gaslight- IMDB gives this Oscar winner a 7.8, and without giving away too much information Ingrid Bergman plays a perfect captive wife that'll have you questioning whether you should trust the man lying next to you.

4. Charade- A romantic comedy with a side of spy thriller, my two favorite actors Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant play characters mixed up in a government conspiracy while on the run from three men bent on revenge. A light hearted thriller that is perfect for a movie night with friends.

 3. Citizen Kane- Rosebud! This movie is considered one of the best movies ever made, but here is a warning this movie will have you clutching your cat moaning, "what's the meaning of it" . This is some seriously heavy material. A man who has everything yet nothing is a wake up call to anyone who is going through a confusing period of their life (which, for me, is every waking moment).

2. Gilda- Rita Hayworth cannot get more "40's sex goddess" than in this flick with a very sexy Glenn Ford (I know you wouldn't think that with a name like Glenn). There are some amazing dance numbers, and Gilda's untamed, indecisive, free-spirited personality is extremely relatable to moi. Highly recommended date/hang out/a-night-by-yourself movie. Honestly, this movie is great in any environment.

1. War and Peace- Do you sense a pattern? What can I say Audrey Hepburn's elfish, classy features just draw you in. As for the 3 hour epic, it's worth every minute. You will need ample amount of patience  but it's a do-it-before-you-die/you'll-sound-more-educated-if-you-said-you-watched-it movie. The acting and cinematography are highly enjoyable, so do check it out if you are interested in historical epics.

The Only Things That You Need to Know in French

After four years of learning French, I know the language pretty well. I can speak to you about art, school, politics, animals, camping, medicine, and other subjects that range far and wide. But, to be completely honest, those things will never, ever come up in conversation. I will not walk the streets of Hartford, CT, and have someone come up to me and ask, "Hey, would you mind telling me about Napoleon in French?"

I probably would, and I would put on the intense French accent and the whole shabang, but sadly, that would never happen. So here are some terms you should probably learn  before posting "C'est la vie" on your Tumblr.

"Où est la salle de bain le plus proche?" - Where is the closest bathroom?

"Désolé, je ne parle que l'anglais, mais je sais com
ment le dire." - Sorry, I only speak English, but I know how to say this.

"Qu'est-ce qu'un bon restaurant dans le coin qui ne sentait pas la cigarette?" - What is a good restaurant around here that does not smell like cigarettes?

"Baisez cette merde." - Fuck this shit.

"Quelle robe / bébé / costume / copain et copine / macarons / hôtel / collier vintage/ chiot / chat / béret mignon(ne)!" - What a cute dress/baby/suit/boyfriend and girlfriend/ macaroon/hotel/vintage necklace/puppy/cat/beret!

"Pourquoi tout le monde est si maigre ici?!" - Why is everyone so skinny here?!

"Cette peinture symbolise la société et sa colère à l'homme de petite taille" - This painting symbolizes society and its wrath to the small man.

"Pourrions-nous s'il vous plaît aller chercher une crêpe maintenant?" - Could we please go get a crepe now?

Paper Kings

An apartment on Bleaker, snuggled between common brick towers, tourists called quaint.
Bottles adorn a window from the fifth floor and can only be seen from the other side of the sidewalk.
Under a blanket of dust they shine like some valuable gem in the unforgiving month of July.

The neighborhood observers huddle on the steps of their abodes that all blend together in a haze of uniform risers. The stories they tell, the myths of a man who raised two daughters up there were too much for the innocent ones.
A family that just moved in and sat on the steps, listening to Mr. Atassi had moved out the next day.
His words are engraved in the spaces between my fingers and the whites of all other eyes.

Surrounding me beyond the familiarity of this living room are notes of academia that claim I know things about people, the way they act, their minds  and the consequences of certain human action.
Antiques I collected from travels to the faraway corners of the world sit on my bookshelves.
Wonders of ancient times and literature with art originals coat my walls,
but all I manage is to lay on my carpet that is far too dirty for such a thing and stare at the ceiling.
Here I gaze for hours and tell fortunes of the vendors outside my window and wonder what separates me from the man and his family, just the emptiness of a floor or a ceiling from either perspective denies me the ability to ask.

A song from the Arabic man living in the ghetto, a curbside prophet told me his story.

Greetings

Well hello there, this is our very first post of Vinyl View. We, as high school teenagers, so not want to give off the vibes of "Hey guys, let's drink our parents peach schnapps until we pass out into our dog's shit" crowd which is surprisingly a large percent of youths today. Instead we enjoy the fruits of Thomas Wolfe, Charles Dickens, and Maya Angelou, actually we aren't the pricks from Horace Mann I swear we don't sniff our own butts. We just like a good book, some tea, making strange improv videos, and eating chocolate waffles while greeting each other with our worst "Howyado-un" (Wendy Williams style).

Our Game Plan:
We have no idea. We're just going to surf Seventeen magazine's website and cut out the bubbly bull shit on how you put on green eyeliner and rainbow suspenders. We're going to try our best to stuff your gorgeous face (I know your beautiful because I'm right behind you) with the most far out, quixotic (thesarus.com'd it, I have no idea what it actually means) material that we can find. Anywhooey, we'll try our best to feed your squirrel-like attention span with information you ought to know like are "Robbie-Stew really done for?? "(actually this is a no celebrity gossip zone, they give absolutely nothing to the world besides laughable vampire movies). Look out for strange movies, original poems, DIY's that don't include a $500 trip to Marshall's (although we would love that), and things that, in our opinion, are superior. So sit back, pour yourself grape juice inside a wine glass to put on the facade that you're classy, sexy, and have elegnace. Or, if this is an October night and you have a flannel blanket on, Ms. Zoe recommends green tea with jasmine. Enjoy the VINYL VIEW (he he, world play).
